FIREFIGHTERS PARTICIPATE IN ST. BALDRICK'S FUNDRAISER

On March 30, 2008, a nine member team of firefighters and family members from the Robbinsville Professional Firefighters Association participated in the annual “Collingswood Firefighters for a Kid’s Cure.” This event helped to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.  Robbinsville’s firefighters raised nearly $6,000 this year for cancer research.

St. Baldrick's is the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. During this event, thousands of volunteers shave their heads in solidarity of children with cancer, while requesting donations of support from friends and family.

This year’s event took take place at the Collingswood Grand Ballroom on the Whitehorse Pike in Collingswood, NJ.  The event was organized by members of the Collingswood Fire Department.  Over 500 participants, barbers, guests, family members and supporters attended the event.

Participating in this year’s event from the Robbinsville Professional Firefighters were Team Captain Jason Palmer, Captain Corey Towner, Captain Simon Hernandez, along with Firefighters Jason Belmont, Ed Hirshman, Manny Iglesias, Steve Schnaudt, and Don Snedeker.  Firefighter Belmont’s son Hunter Belmont also participated.

In 2007, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation raised over $12 Million for childhood cancer research.  If you would like to learn more about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation you can visit their web site at http://www.stbaldricks.org

U.S. ARMY HELICOPTER VISITS TOWNSHIP OF ROBBINSVILLE

WASHINGTON TOWNSIHP - November 12, 2007 - Soldiers from the U.S. Army’s 1-150th General Aviation Support Battalion landed at the Pond Road Middle School on the day after Veteran’s Day as guests of the Robbinsville High School ROTC program.  Firefighters from the Robbinsville Division of Fire (formerly Washington Township Fire Department) were on standby there to secure a landing zone.

The Sikorsky UH-60A “Blackhawk” helicopter that landed here is an Army National Guard unit based out of Lakehurst Naval Weapons Station in Ocean County and is currently equipped with a winch and basket that is used for search and rescue missions. The Blackhawk has the capability, however, to be outfitted with two M240H machine guns that are mounted on both sides of the aircraft when needed for tactical military operations.  A new UH-60L Army helicopter costs about $5.9 million dollars while the Air Force version of the same unit (the M-60G)
is worth about $10.2 million.

The U.S. Army crew that visited the Pond Road Middle School will be deployed to Iraq for 12 months starting in January of 2008.
Good Luck and Best Wishes to these fine soldiers.

FIREFIGHTERS PERFORM BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS

WASHINGTON TOWNSIHP – August 20, 2007- Firefighters from IAFF Local 3786 performed blood pressure screenings this morning for local seniors at the Washington Township Senior Center.

Washington Township’s career firefighters perform complimentary blood pressure checks every Monday morning at the Senior Center between 11:30 AM and 12:15 PM.

Firefighters are also available to perform blood pressure screenings seven days a week at the Washington Township Fire Headquarters located at 1149 Route 130 in Robbinsville.

The fire department recommends frequent regular blood pressure screenings as this can help identify those who are at risk for stroke, heart attack, aneurysm, and other serious medical conditions that can occur as a result of uncontrolled high blood pressure.
